Jiwan Lee PhD candidate, Columbia University
Welcome! I am a doctoral candidate at the School of Social Work, Columbia University. I study poverty and the implications of social policies on the economic and social well-being of families and children. My dissertation investigates how state Paid Family Leave impacts mothers’ employment and the economic security of families with newborn children. I also study Child Tax Credits (CTC), Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
I hold an MSW from Seoul National University and a BA from the Sogang University School of Political Science. I am originally from Korea, and prior to my doctoral study, I worked at the Organization for Economic and Cooperative Development (OECD) and the Korean Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA). When not working on research, I enjoy planting, cooking, and working out at the gym.
